The Emperor is a Fool when he seeks to isolate himself from his advisers and from the people that he rules.
As I work through a course by the Tarosophy Tarot Association about the correspondences between Tarot and Kabbalah, I stumbled onto this particular grouping of cards and I thought about the appropriateness of this in today’s political climate.
I see this in the battles between Trump and Kim Jong Un, between Israel and Palestine, between Assad and the rebels. This condition killed Saddam Hussein and Muammar Kaddafi and led to the Arab Spring in Egypt. Similar conflicts have played out for centuries and they will continue to play out into future generations. The cards through their Kabbalistic correspondences predict this, but they also bring forth a solution if our leaders choose to heed the warning.
Emperors have a duty to bring structure into the chaotic lives of their people; however, if that structure falls outside of the will of the people, it is bound to fail. This vicious cycle has been turning since the dawn of time and is evident in the Hebrew letter Peh with its correspondence to the Tower Card.
Peh has two potential spellings, Peh Heh or Peh Aleph, corresponding respectively to the Tower and the Emperor or the Tower and the Fool. Kabbalistically, these are two paths that lead to wisdom are the Path of the Emperor and the Path of the Fool. The Fool brings the vision and the Emperor brings the control. One without the other can lead to misunderstandings about the purpose of leadership.
Two other paths also lead Wisdom. The Empress and the Hierophant, bring structure and balance in their wake. Leaders who ignore their influence seem destined to fail. Conversely, leaders who embrace only these characteristics are seen either as weak or inflexible.
The most successful leaders will consider the natural order of reality as they make their decisions. They chose to work with the wind rather than fight it. Working with the natural progression of change brings a more balanced approach to the success than any measure of brute force ever could.
