Do Something

I do Nothing
Questions arise. Say yes or say no I do nothing
Opportunities come. Opportunities go I do nothing
Risk versus reward a terrible sword I do nothing
Forward or back a choice must be made I do nothing
It’s time for a change but none will come as long as I do nothing

     This is my year to do something. I decided to let go of my preconceived notions of what people thought about me.
                       It’s not an easy task. 
     I spent years seeking the approval of the people who loved me anyway and also of a few who didn’t. Over several years, I became unhappy but couldn’t pinpoint why. 
     My efforts to find happiness didn’t involve drinking or drugs. Instead, I scanned the self-help shelves in every bookstore that I entered. But the topics didn’t quite cover what I was feeling. I trudged on grasping at anything free or very low cost that might help.
     My search led me to the Gift of Light Expo in Ohio in 2005, where I would meet Connie Dohan, whose story inspired me to keep pushing forward. 
Connie is the associate director of the Reiki Awakening Academy. Her inspirational workshop eventually led me to learning Practical Reiki in Lily Dale NY. 
     The Most Important lesson I learned was that the subtle process of giving away my responsibility for being happy actually was the cause of my sadness. 
                        I had to make a choice. 
     I chose to do more of what I loved instead of constantly focusing on keeping everyone around me happy.
     Fast forward to today. I’m much happier now that I do what I love, instead of what other people expect of me. I’ve learned to say no when appropriate. I no longer need to be everything for everyone. 
     I’ve had several wonderful teachers since then, but I wanted to give a shout out to the person who unknowingly helped me the most on this journey.
